Etihad Airways Accelerates Global Growth With Major Airbus Order Adding A330neos A350-1000s And A350 Freighters To Build A Stronger Future Widebody Fleet

Etihad Airways is making significant strides in its global expansion by placing a major order for Airbus aircraft, including A330neos, A350-1000s, and A350 freighters. This strategic move is set to strengthen the airline’s widebody fleet, positioning it for enhanced global connectivity and long-term growth. By investing in these advanced, fuel-efficient aircraft, Etihad aims to optimize its operations and meet increasing demand across its international network, marking a new chapter in the airline’s ambitious growth plan.
Etihad Airways has revealed an ambitious expansion of its fleet with a substantial order for six Airbus A330-900 aircraft, marking its entry as the latest customer for the A330neo. The airline has also secured an additional seven A350-1000s, raising its total A350-1000 fleet to 27, alongside a commitment for three A350 freighters, bringing its total A350F order to 10.
This deal was confirmed at the Dubai Airshow, where Etihad also unveiled plans to lease nine A330-900s from Avolon, further strengthening its widebody fleet for the coming years.
“These aircraft strengthen our operations across medium-haul, long-haul, and cargo. The A330neo brings the right combination of efficiency and flexibility for our regional and mid-range growth, while the A350-1000 continues to deliver exceptional performance on our long-haul network. The A350F freighter adds significant capability to our cargo division as global demand continues to expand. Our partnership with Airbus continues to play an important role in shaping our future fleet, and we are proud to be building one of the world’s most modern and efficient widebody operations.” said Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad Airways CEO.
“Etihad Airways’ continued investment in our latest-generation widebody aircraft is a testament to the strength of our partnership and the shared vision we have for the future of aviation in the UAE and beyond,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business. “The combination of the A350 Family and A330neo will deliver unmatched efficiency and flexibility to Etihad’s operations, supporting its future development.”
The A350 is the most advanced widebody aircraft globally, designed to cover distances of up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometers) non-stop, setting new benchmarks in long-haul travel. It integrates cutting-edge technologies and aerodynamics, offering unmatched efficiency and passenger comfort. With the latest Rolls-Royce engines and the use of lightweight materials, the A350 delivers a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency, operational costs, and CO₂ emissions compared to older aircraft models.
The A350 freighter (A350F) boasts the largest main deck cargo door in the industry, with its fuselage designed to optimize space for standard pallets and containers. It is also the only freighter model set to comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) stricter CO₂ emissions regulations, effective from 2027. Currently, test aircraft assembly is ongoing in Toulouse.
The A330neo, a next-generation aircraft from Airbus, is powered by the advanced Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. With a range of up to 8,100 nautical miles (15,000 kilometers), it is designed for long-haul travel, ensuring efficiency and reliability. One of its standout features is a remarkable 25% reduction in fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, and operating costs when compared to previous models. This makes the A330neo an essential player in the ongoing effort to reduce aviation’s environmental impact while maintaining operational excellence.
A key highlight of the A330neo is its award-winning Airspace cabin, designed to provide passengers with an elevated travel experience. The cabin offers more space, quieter surroundings, and modern amenities, all contributing to a comfortable and enjoyable journey. Whether flying for business or leisure, passengers aboard the A330neo can expect a high level of comfort and convenience that sets a new standard in commercial aviation.
Sustainability is a central focus for Airbus, and both the A350 and A330neo families are designed to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), further underscoring Airbus’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of air travel. By 2030, Airbus plans to make its aircraft fully compatible with SAF, enabling a significant step forward in the aviation industry’s transition to greener practices. This aligns with broader efforts within the aerospace sector to achieve net-zero emissions.
Etihad Airways is set to accelerate its global expansion with a major Airbus order that includes A330neos, A350-1000s, and A350 freighters. This strategic investment will bolster the airline’s widebody fleet, ensuring enhanced efficiency and long-term growth. With these advanced, fuel-efficient aircraft, Etihad aims to strengthen its position in the global aviation market and meet the growing demand across its international network.
As of October 2025, the A350 Family has secured over 1,400 orders from 64 customers worldwide, cementing its position as a popular choice for airlines looking to modernize their fleets with cutting-edge, fuel-efficient aircraft. Meanwhile, the A330 Family continues to impress with over 1,900 orders from more than 130 customers. The success of both aircraft families reflects the growing demand for sustainable, high-performance aircraft that meet the evolving needs of the airline industry.
